Athletes, ages 8 and up, interested in competing in track and field events may sign up for Special Olympics Athletics. I am happy to announce that Josie Markus will be the Athletics Head Coach this year! She has been an assistant coach for many years, and I am excited that she has stepped up to the role of Head Coach. The roster will be capped at 40 athletes, with those returning from last year being guaranteed a spot until the close of registration on Feb 24th. A waiting list will be created if needed. The cost to participate the entire season is $15. Practice will be held every Wednesday, weather permitting, starting March 4th, 5:45-7pm at Minooka District 201 Track and Field located at the Intermediate/Jr High campus at the corner of McEvilly and Ridge Rd, Minooka. Spring Games (regional competition) will be May 2-3 (yes, it is 2 days this year) at Thornwood HS in South Holland; Summer Games (state competition), for those who qualify, will be June 12-14 at ISU Bloomington/Normal.
Check your e-mail for the Informed Consent and Event Selections sheet for Athletics, as well as the most current version of the Special Olympics med app. If you did not receive an e-mail wth this information, please contact me at [email protected]
If you are unsure of the expiration date of your med app, I can get that information for you when you register. Instead of holding a meeting, a video will be posted next week to explain the paperwork and give more details about the season, including Spring Games being divided into 2 days. You can watch it as many times as you need, and at your convenience. Then, the following options will be available to submit paperwork and pay the fee, all due by Feb 24th when registration will close:
You can pay the fee here through paypal.
Send paperwork and check to PO Box 289 Morris, IL 60540
IN PERSON: (an appointment would need to be made)
I can meet you at our office to accept the paperwork and cash or check for the fee. Also, if you are unable to print the forms at home I will have them available at the designated time.
***Physicals by a doctor must be completed on the Special Olympics Medical Application form and signed by the doctor, no exceptions. I also ask for the original copy turned in to me to send in to our regional office. Faxes or scans of this form are not acceptable, as they are often rejected for being blurry.***
