Special Olympics Swim Team Registration

Athletes, ages 8 and up, who are interested in competing in swimming may sign up for Special Olympics Swim Team. There will be an informational Zoom meeting Wednesday, October 20th at 7:00PM. Please plan to attend this meeting as this season will look very different than what we're used to. The link for the meeting is below. Even if you are only interested in more information, I encourage you to attend the meeting. We will go over paperwork, practice/competition information, and current rules/policies. The roster will be capped at 16 athletes, and precedence will be given to athletes returning from the 2019-20 season. A waiting list will be created for anyone new to this sport on a first come, first served basis.

Practice will take place generally twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, based on venue availability, 6:15-8:15 (the first and last 15 minutes will be locker room time) at Dist 101 Morris High School. At the coaches' discretion, they may end practice before 8:00. The first practice will be November 2nd. Regional competition will be March 5th tentatively, and State competition  for those who qualify will be at Summer Games on June 17-19, 2022. Athletes competing in relays must commit to the entire season. Athletes who advance in doubles or team for Bocce are not eligible to join a swimming relay team. TRANSPORTATION TO PRACTICES AND COMPETITIONS IS THE ATHLETE'S RESPONSIBILITY.

Registration will close on October 21st, and I will pull from the waiting list on the 22nd as long as there's room on the roster. Completed paperwork will be due to me by October 28th or you will not be able to attend practice. Medical Forms must be valid through June 20, 2022. If you are not sure when your Medical expires, I can check that for you. If you need a new Medical, it must be on the new SO Medical Form and turned in to me by January 13, 2022 or before your current Medical expires, or you will not be able to compete. LATE PAPERWORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED, NO EXCEPTIONS! Special Connections will cover the cost for all swimming athletes this season.

Volunteer Assistant Coaches are needed at practices and competitions. Knowledge of swimming is not required. Even another set of eyes is helpful to keep our 4:1 athlete to coach ratio.
